The complete conception of this competition solution of the Pula city waterfront (Riva) rests upon a few important elements:

  • Out housing and reconstructing the capital entering points into the city centre: on the north, it is the out housing of the Cesta prekomorskih brigada (Maritime Brigades Road) in order of expanding direct traffic access to the waterfront and the terminal directed from significant city and tourist centers on the west coast of Istria; in the east, it is reconstructing the existing crossroads on the bridge into a modern roundabout (the suggestion is that of a roundabout with the elements of turbo traffic access), given this enables a direct connection to the Pula motorway junction as well as to the Pula airport;
  • Reconstructing the railway station into a modern wayfaring hub and a point of access to other means of (public) transport;
  • Rectification of the existing coast road and its connection to the railway and tram tracks in order of building an integrated and effective transport corridor;
  • Expanding the land surface by primarily inventing structures able to solve other needs, especially the issue of parking spaces, solved by a garage (functioning as a terminal, centre etc.);
  • De-leveling parts of the existing as well as the planned traffic network which cross the coastline, in order of circling the entire ambient of the Arena underlining its sight as an elementary spatial and architectural phenomenon;
  • Creating a system of public green areas apt for multipurposing which also stand as an expansion of the pedestrian zone of the city centre, interconnected with public transport;
  • Planning an area of a new waterfront as a zone for pedestrians and as spatial and content extension of the city centre with a potential to initiate further transformation of the coastline of the Pula bay;
  • Using local waters for accommodating public and social purposes;
  • Using local waters to move water-purifying installations onto platforms (technical islands) situated near the island of Uljanik (by this suggested solution, as well as by building a collector reaching to 700m, a suitable solution is introduced for discharging wastewaters with two objectives in mind: avoiding their clashing with the urban landscape and resolving new technological needs and demands).
